Hove's 500-metre trip carries the same inside bias as the track's staple distance: trap one is historically the strongest box here, and in this specific A1 sample it wins comfortably more than a quarter of the time, with trap four the drop-out at under seventeen per cent. Hove is also a bumpy, physical circuit where the heavier, stronger-striding sort tend to cope best with the traffic around the home turn. Cloheena Caelan and Seomra Hachi are the two fast-away types drawn three and five and will dictate the early passage of the race, but both have a history of fading once the pressure comes on, which should suit the proven closers coming from the fence in traps one and two, plus Untold Aave's more balanced pace style out wide in six. If the front pair go off too hard early, the whole finish becomes a free-for-all in the closing fifty metres.
Last time out he could only finish sixth, but that followed a run of form where he peaked at a career-best effort, and one flat run doesn't erase that level of ability. He's the fastest dog in this field on the clock and sits in trap one, historically the most productive box at this course, distance and grade by some distance. He's also won three of his last six starts here over the same trip, a strong course and distance record. He tends to finish out of it rather than lead early on, but the inside draw should keep him out of trouble long enough to use that closing effort.
Unbeaten in his last two starts and has won four of his last ten runs over this course and distance — a strong record. Drawn in six, which has actually been the second-best box in this sample behind trap one, and his trainer has the best strike rate of any handler in this race at this level. He races in a balanced, all-round style rather than relying purely on early gate speed, which should suit him if the race turns messy in the middle stages. The most obvious danger to the top selection.
Modest form from just three recorded starts, with a poor run last time out sandwiched between two respectable efforts, though the sample is still too small to draw firm conclusions either way. Yet to record a course and distance win from two attempts at this trip. Second-fastest in the field on the clock, which keeps him in the conversation, but with thin form and no proven record here he looks more of an each-way sort than the one to beat.
Won last time out and has been in tremendous form with three wins from her last six, including a career-best effort a few runs back. She steps up into tougher company today, but she owns the best course and distance record in the race — three wins from five at this trip and track. Her issue is she tends to fire fast then fade, and she isn't the fastest on the raw clock here, so she may need those in front to stop rather than out-and-out pace of her own.
Finished third last time out and has been fairly consistent without threatening to win, with only one course and distance win from ten attempts at this trip. He fires fast and tends to fade late, a pace profile that doesn't suit this specific test as well as a true closer would. Others have stronger claims on the data.
No recorded race form to assess here, which makes this a complete unknown heading into open company. Drawn in trap four, which has been the weakest-performing box in this sample at under seventeen per cent, adding to the difficulty of fancying him on paper. The market on the day is likely to be the best guide to whether there is anything happening behind the scenes with this one.
Key insight: Trap one is a significant structural edge at this course, distance and grade, winning almost double the rate of trap four.
