An A6 over Harlow's tight four-bend 415 metres — first-bend racing at its most decisive, with the A6 draw stats from 2,821 runs favouring trap six (21.6%) and the vacant trap four thinning the middle. The early pace lives wide and inside-middle: Savana Dingle owns the sharpest break in the field from six and Luminous Cutie, the fastest dog in the race on best time, rolls forward from three. Both are stronger early than late. The two most reliable finishers are on the fence — Savana Pyjamas, seven top-two finishes from ten course and distance starts, and the once-raced trial-sharp Bonnies Baby Boy. Dingle and Cutie should cut out a strong gallop; Pyjamas, with the field's best speed figures and a record of finishing races others start, gets the run of it late up the rail.
The dependable one in a race of question marks. He has finished first or second in seven of his ten course and distance starts, winning three — the best record in the field — and he matched his 27.18 best when second last week. His speed figures lead the race and he has proven form at this grade, with 62 and 58-rated runs at A6 earlier in the summer. He is a patient runner from trap one, which wins a modest 17.4% at this grade, and that is the honest risk: he needs a clean passage up the fence while the two early-pace dogs burn each other. But with the sharpest breakers in this field both confirmed weak finishers, the race should come back to him just as it did seven days ago.
The fastest dog in the race — her 27.07 course and distance best leads the field — and she returned from a spell of sprinting with a sharp 48-rated second at this grade last week. There is a 72 in her book from the spring and her early pace is strong, so she will be prominent from the boxes. The wobble is everything between those bright spots: a run of D3 sprint outings in the 20s that says her form arrives in bursts. One win from three course and distance starts. If last week's version returns she is the biggest threat; two runs of evidence after a sprint campaign is a thin platform to bank on.
Improved dramatically to a 54-rated third at this grade last week — comfortably his career best — and he brings the sharpest break and best first-bend rating in the field to trap six, the strongest box at this grade at 21.6%. The catch is experience: that was his first ever run at the trip after a career of D-grade sprinting, and his one course and distance clocking of 27.29 is honest rather than quick. Sprint-bred dogs with his break often lead these a long way before the trip finds them out. Improving, well drawn and dangerous early; unproven late.
One career race — a 49-rated fourth at this grade ten days ago, a perfectly respectable debut — and a trial book that catches the eye, headed by a fast 27.13 spin earlier this month in which he crowded and led at the first bend. That trial time would put him right among the leaders here. But one race and three trials is no form line: trials come without sustained pressure, and debut-plus-one dogs remain guesswork. The Nevin kennel clearly likes him enough to place him straight into A6 company. Promising, watchable, unbettable.
The talent is indisputable — a 71-rated run last month and a 66 in June sit in his book, and his 27.16 best time is second in this field. The delivery is anything but: those peaks alternate with 22s and 23s, he was last of six here on his latest start, and he has drawn trap five, the worst occupied box at this grade at 16.8%. Two wins from eight course and distance starts show it can happen. Backing him is a bet on which dog gets off the lorry, from the worst draw, after his poorest run in weeks. The peaks say danger; everything else says watch.
Key insight: A6 over 415m is one of Harlow's most open conditions — the top-rated dog wins just 20.7% and the ranks barely separate, so course records and race shape carry extra weight. Trap 6 (21.6%) leads the draw. 2,821 runs.
