Kinsley's downhill catapult to the first bend decides most 268m sprints inside three seconds, and at D4 the draw statistics are the most lopsided on the card: trap 3 dominates this grade, winning 26% from 1,979 runs, while trap 5 collapses to under 10%. Homegrown Sydney is the confirmed front runner but is racing for the first time since March; Queen Ariana has the raw speed but the deadest draw. Letter Flash, in the golden box with three course wins behind him, and the ultra-consistent Kilara Theo on the rail should be the ones fighting it out at the bend — and at this trip, whoever gets there first usually stays there.
Drawn in trap 3, which dominates this grade at 26% — the strongest single draw statistic anywhere on today's card — and he backs it up with three course-and-distance wins from ten plus a win at this level two starts ago. Trainer May's runners always deserve respect here too. When the best box on the card meets one of the most proven sprinters in the race, the sums do themselves.
The ultimate nearly-dog — one win but four places from ten course-and-distance runs, including three straight seconds recently. He is drawn in a respectable box at this grade and will inevitably be thereabouts again; the question, as ever, is whether he can find the extra length that turns seconds into firsts.
Quick from the boxes and likes to lead, with a course win over this trip in the winter — but she has not raced since early March, a four-month absence that no amount of home schooling fully replaces. If she is fit and fires from the lids she is a player; that is a big if on the day.
Arrives off a win, but it came over the 462m trip in A7 company — a different discipline entirely — and his eight sprint tries here have yielded no wins and one place. He finishes races strongly rather than starting them, which is the wrong way round for this downhill dash.
Decent raw speed — among the best in this field — but she has not won in months and is drawn in trap 5, which wins under 10% at this grade, the deadest box on the card. Speed from an impossible launching pad rarely gets the job done here.
Has not raced since April, has no course-and-distance win in three tries, and the form before the break was modest at best. The wide box is unexceptional at this grade. Impossible to recommend on what is in the book.
Key insight: Trap 3 dominates D4 sprints, winning 26.0% from 315 runs — the strongest single draw statistic on today's card — while trap 5 wins just 9.8% from 315. The fastest-rated dog wins 23.5% at this grade, so speed and the trap 3 draw are the two signals that matter.
