Doncaster's sprint trip rewards a clean early break more than anything else, and trap five has been the standout box in this grade at just under 24% winners against trap four's 18% at the tail end. Innocent Molly and Cascade Electra both like to force the pace from the rail and the middle respectively, while Vinegarhill Cash and Blitz Bianca race from further out and need a bit of room to get competitive. Vinegarhill Cash is comfortably the fastest of this six on raw times, and drawn in the best trap in the field, he has every chance of dictating from the gun. If he travels as well as his figures suggest, this could be over long before the run-in.
Genuinely consistent form — a win and four further places from his last six starts, rarely finishing out of the frame. He's the fastest dog in this field on the clock by a clear margin, holding both the best recorded time and the best average, and he's drawn in trap five, the strongest box in this grade at just under 24% winners. His trainer, Watson, has the best record of any handler in the race at these conditions, close to 28% — a serious structural edge stacked on top of the speed and the draw. When the fastest dog in the field lines up in the best box with the in-form trainer, that's about as strong a combination as this trip produces.
Won nicely last time out, leading for much of the way, but that was at the grade below — this is tougher tonight. Second-fastest in the field on the clock and shares the field-best time, a fast-early type who tends to lose ground late once the finish arrives, which could work against her at this minimum trip if the pace is truly strong. The concern is her trainer, who has one of the weaker records in the race at these conditions. Could easily back up the step up in grade given the raw speed on show, but the trainer record and the fading pace profile give reason for pause. The main danger if the selection doesn't have things all his own way.
Only two career starts to go on, so this is a genuine unknown — she won readily at the very bottom grade before finishing fourth on a step up in company. Tonight she jumps two grades higher again, a big ask on such a thin body of evidence. The slowest recorded time in this field and no track record of coping with opposition anything like this strong. There simply isn't enough data to make a confident case either way. A speculative interest at best, with the market likely to know far more than the form book can offer at this stage of her career.
Tops the ratings on paper with a strong recent scoreline — a win and four seconds from her last five starts — but almost all of that form was built at the grade below, and in her one run back at this level she could only manage fourth. The underlying model actually rates her the outsider of this field despite the top rating, a sign that the grade-drop form may be flattering her. Not among the quicker dogs on the raw clock either. Drawn in trap one, a solid box at this trip, and her trainer has a fair record here. Respected for the consistency but the grade-adjusted picture is far less rosy than the rating alone suggests.
Two wins from her last six starts, both by taking it up early, though the last two runs have been below that level with a couple of mid-table finishes. Third-fastest in this field on the clock but drawn in trap four, statistically the weakest box in this grade at under 18% winners — a genuine obstacle at this trip. Her trainer's record at these conditions is modest. Capable of racing prominently but the draw is working against her tonight.
A boom-or-bust runner — a win at the grade below a couple of starts ago but otherwise finishing down the field, including two below-par efforts in her last two starts at this level. Fifth-fastest of the six on the clock and races wide throughout, a pattern that hasn't been paying off lately. Her trainer's record at these conditions is the weakest in the field. Hard to have confidence in on the recent evidence — others have much stronger cases tonight.
Key insight: The fastest dog in the field wins over 28% of the time at this trip and grade — comfortably the strongest single signal, and it lines up with the best trap and the strongest trainer record in this race.
