The second of tonight's Barking Buzz semi-finals, another field making only their second competitive appearance. Trap six has been the standout box across this qualifying series so far, though tonight's fastest recorded time actually belongs to trap four's Mossy Fen, who drew right away from his heat field to win going away. Crack On Mylo also won his own heat and looks the most obvious challenger, while the rest are searching for the pace to get competitive with the front two.
Won his heat in visually the most impressive fashion of the whole qualifying series so far — led from the second bend and drew clear, recording the fastest time of any dog through this competition. That's built the best suitability profile in this field for track and trip too. Only one run on the board, so it's a leap of faith to call him proven, but the manner of that win was head and shoulders above what anyone else in this heat produced.
Also won his own heat, leading from the third bend and drawing clear at the line, and built matching suitability figures to tonight's top pick for both track and trip. The time was a fraction slower than Mossy Fen's, but a genuine winning performance from a fair test is a real form line. The most obvious danger if the top selection has anything go wrong.
Finished second in the opening heat of this pair, moving off the rail and finishing well to grab the runner-up spot with a solid recorded time. Trainer Joe Devlin already has a runner in the field with a decent overall record, which is worth noting even at this early stage. Respectable form without being spectacular.
Was slow away in his only run and ran on for fourth without ever threatening the front two, recording a modest time. There's no evidence yet that he has the gears to trouble tonight's principals, though a keener break could improve matters. On what's been shown so far he's up against it here.
Showed early pace before fading to finish third in his heat, which at least suggests some early gears even if he couldn't sustain it. Trap six has been the strongest box across this qualifying series overall, which offers some encouragement despite the moderate form. Others in this field have shown more, though.
Was slow away and never got competitive, finishing fourth with the slowest recorded time in this field. Trainer Cora Doyle hasn't had a winner yet from her runners on record, which doesn't inspire confidence alongside the modest debut effort. Very little in this line to suggest she troubles the principals tonight.
Key insight: Mossy Fen's heat win was visually the most impressive of the series so far — clear daylight at the line and the fastest recorded time of any qualifier.
Trap 6 has produced the majority of winners across this stakes series, though tonight's fastest recorded time comes from trap four
