Same Lifford A7 525m picture as the opener — trap 6 has been the standout box all year at 23% from over 1,400 runs, trap 2 the weakest at under 12%, and raw pace beats the ratings more often than not at this grade. Rathcrea Signet ticks almost every box here — top-rated, among the fastest, drawn in the favoured trap and with a proven course and distance record. Droopys Litefoot is the wildcard, a genuine unknown with no graded racing form to go on. Behind the leader it's a workmanlike group who'll be fighting for the places rather than the win.
Ticks almost every box for this grade and trip. Comfortably the top-rated dog on the model, shares the fastest raw time in the field, and is drawn in trap 6 — by some distance the best-performing box at Lifford's A7 525m grade at 23% from over 1,400 runs. Backs it up with the strongest course and distance record in the race too, two wins and three top-two finishes from ten runs at this exact venue and trip, a 20% strike rate. Form has been solid without being spectacular, sitting in the 40s to 60s range, and trainer William Mullan's 22% strike rate adds a touch of extra confidence. When the top rating, the best trap and the strongest course and distance form all point the same way, that combination is hard to ignore.
Ran a career-best 63-rated performance three starts back and followed up with a solid third last time out, rated 56. Sits in trap 2, the weakest box at this grade historically at under 11.5%, which works against her. Course and distance experience is limited to just three runs with no wins or places, so this trip and track remain something of an unknown despite the improving recent form. The second-best rated dog on the model and the one with the most upward momentum if the draw doesn't hold her back.
Dropped down from A5 two grades ago and has settled at this level without winning yet, form reading 51-53-45-41-35-44. Owns the best average time in the race but that hasn't converted into course and distance success — no wins or places from nine runs at this venue and trip. Trainer Dean McComb's runners haven't found the winner's enclosure recently. A workmanlike sort more likely to make up the numbers than trouble the front two.
Shares the fastest raw time in the field but the form hasn't matched it, finishing fifth last time out and without a course and distance win in ten attempts here — just a single place to show for it. Grade has dropped two steps from an A5 peak, which can flatter the averages, but the recent figures (45-38-45-42-43-60) don't suggest a dog ready to strike. Needs plenty to go right.
A genuine unknown quantity — the only form on file is a single trial win at Star Pelaw over 435m, a completely different track and trip run without any real competition alongside. There is no graded racing form at all to assess ability, pace, or how this dog handles a six-dog field in traffic. Could have raw talent given the trial win, but it's impossible to say with any confidence how that translates to Lifford's 525m circuit. Speculative in every sense.
Steps up from A8 after a runner-up finish last time out, and the grade rise makes life harder rather than easier. The lowest-rated dog in the field on the composite and the softest on raw speed too. Course and distance experience is minimal at just two runs, with a single place to show. Trap 5 is a reasonable box here but the raw ability looks a cut below this company.
Key insight: Trap 6 is by far the best box at Lifford's A7 525m grade (23.0% from 1,422 runs) while trap 2 is the weakest (11.5%). The fastest dog in the field wins more often (26.4%) than the top-rated dog on the model (20.1%), making this a speed-first track at this grade.
