Step up to A6 and the trap bias flips completely from the earlier races — trap 1 is the best box at this grade (20.4% from 167 runs) while trap 2 is the weakest (11.9%), the opposite pattern to A7. Speed still edges out the ratings as the sharper signal, with the fastest dog winning just over a quarter of the time. Solo Mia arrives on the back of a career-best winning performance and a perfect record from her two runs at this course and distance, while Swanson Trouble is the more battle-tested type with the highest raw performance figure in the race. Lyon and Drumnafern Delta both switch in from very different conditions — a sprint and a marathon respectively — and are hard to trust on unfamiliar ground.
Won last time out with a career-best performance, backing up a strong run before that, and the form trajectory of 70-64-42-42 shows a dog on a clear upward curve. Steps up into A6 off the back of that win, and while it's early days at this exact level, a perfect record of two wins from two course and distance runs here is a promising sign even from a small sample. Shares the fastest raw time in the field and trainer Eddie Hurson's runners have an excellent 42% strike rate — well above what most trainers manage. Trap 4 is a middling box at this grade rather than the standout draw, but the form and the trainer's touch carry real weight.
Carries the highest raw performance rating in the field and shares top billing on speed too, with a career-best 70 showing up two runs back. Recent form has been consistently solid in the mid-to-high 50s and 60s, finishing fourth last time out. Has the best course and distance sample size in the race with ten runs, returning one win and two top-two finishes. If Solo Mia's step up in grade doesn't work out, this is the type most likely to capitalise.
Switches in from sprint racing over 335m with a career peak three grades higher, and there's no course and distance experience at all over this trip at Lifford. Recent form of 48-53-52-42-49-47 is respectable at the shorter trip but tells us little about how the extra distance will suit. Drawn in the box that's historically the best at this grade, which is the main thing in this dog's favour. A genuine unknown stepping up in trip.
Finished third last time out at this level with a solid 62-rated effort, the best of a form line that's bounced around the 40s to 60s. Has a modest course and distance record of one win and two top-two finishes from nine runs. Trap 2 is the weakest box at this grade historically, which counts against her chances here.
Last seen finishing fourth in a marathon 820m contest, a huge step down in trip back to this standard distance, so last time out form isn't directly comparable. Owns a career peak of 61 at this sort of grade and has one place from four runs at this course and distance. The switch in trip is the big query — has shown decent ability but the recent evidence comes from a very different type of race.
Dropped two grades from an A4 peak and the recent form has cooled, finishing last last time out with a 44-rated effort. Does have a decent course and distance record of two wins and three top-two finishes from ten runs here, so the track and trip clearly suit at the right level. Trainer Paul Whyte's runners have a modest strike rate. Trap 6 is one of the weaker boxes at this grade, adding to the questions.
Key insight: Trap bias reverses at A6 compared to A7 — trap 1 is now the best box (20.4% from 167 runs) and trap 2 remains weak (11.9%). Speed Rank 1 wins 26.1%, only marginally ahead of Speed Rank 2 at 24.7%, so the speed edge is real but tighter than at A7.
