Extreme Closer (EP31, CS100, PC88) with joint-best average performance at 58 and the field's best speed rating at 57. Form of 3-5-2-2-2 with performances of 56→47→64→58→62 is consistent in the upper range — the 64 and 62 are strong at A5, and even the 47 dip is competitive. Three consecutive 2nd-place finishes show a dog who's always in the frame but struggling to get past the leader — the CS100 gets him close but the EP31 means he's always closing from too far back. Track suit 43 is strong, distance suit 36 and trap suit 42 are both decent. Class suit 45 is the best in the field — he's been competitive at this level consistently. T1 wins 19.8% from 202 runs — solid, and the rail draw is perfect for a Closer at Sunderland: he hugs the rail through the difficult first bend without needing early pace, saving ground through every turn while the pace-setters take wider paths. Trainer Bell at 12% is weak but at A5 the dog's form speaks for itself. The question is whether CS100 from T1 with EP31 can bridge the gap to Louies Lass (EP58, Bend63) who'll be lengths clear at the first bend. Sunderland's 24% all-the-way rate and the difficult bend shuffling positions give him the race dynamics he needs.
DANGER: Joint-best perf (58), best single-race performance (69), CS100 closing speed, and a strong T2 draw (20.34%). But EP17 and Bend15 create a massive first-bend deficit at a track where the bend reshuffles everything. She'll be flying at the finish — the question is whether she starts closing soon enough.
Best trap in the race (T3, 23.43%) but 7 points behind the top two on performance (51 vs 58). Volatile form (67→45→63→44→39) and low speed (44) prevent a stronger assessment. The draw is a positive but form is against her.
Impressive improving trajectory (31→28→53→55→69) and the best bend in the field (63). Will lead through the first bend but T4 is the worst trap and two CS100 closers will hunt her down through the later bends. Could place if she builds enough early advantage.
Two recent wins are attractive but form has since collapsed (37→31→57) and the worst suitability in the field (track 17, distance 17) suggests Sunderland doesn't suit. Too inconsistent against proven runners.
Decent speed (53) and good bend rating (57) but deeply inconsistent form (70→34→51→31→44) and the T6 wide draw work against him. The 70 peak is irrelevant against current form of 34→44. Not competitive.
1,434 runs. T3 dominant at 23.43% (239 runs). T2 strong at 20.34%. T4 weakest at 15.06%. Composite R1 wins 21.6% — ratings are predictive at A5. Speed R1 wins 20.81%. The top-rated dog has a meaningful edge.
