The first of the 525-metre contests — three bends and a genuine test of sustained pace rather than a pure dash. With no long-term Dundalk trap data on the books yet, form does the talking, and it talks loudest for Boynepark Coco in the red jacket: she won this grade over course and distance last week with the best figure of her career and owns the fastest best time in this field. Molly Oh next door is honest and consistent but has won just once in nine tries here. Lahinch Charlie brings back-to-back thirds and thrives at this level, but the clock says he is giving the principals a start, while Curraghmorekid — second at this grade last week — is a sprinter by trade taking on the longer trip again.
Won this grade over course and distance last week with the best performance of her recent career — a real step forward after weeks of running creditably against stronger A3 company. She owns both the fastest best time and the sharpest speed figure in this field, and her ten course and distance runs include two wins, so she knows every yard of the way round. A dog dropping in from tougher races and immediately winning at the new level is the most trustworthy profile in this race, and the inside draw lets her use her pace from the boxes.
Runs her race almost every time — the best average time in the field, placed or thereabouts in a string of her nine course and distance starts, and a second at this grade in the spring confirms the level is right. She has not won since then and one win from nine local tries caps enthusiasm, but if the selection cannot repeat last week's career best, this is the one most likely to be on the premises at the line.
Won at the grade below in April with a big figure but has not been close since — four defeats on the bounce including a sixth against stronger rivals in June, and her most recent time was the slowest anyone here has posted lately. Her best form would make her competitive in this; her recent form leaves her needing a revival.
Has been racing against stronger A3 and A4 company, which flatters his figures — six course and distance runs without a win or second place is the more telling stat. He was last seen finishing sixth in mid-June, so sharpness after five weeks off is a fair question. The drop in class helps and his mid-pack times are respectable, but others here are more convincing.
Back-to-back thirds in the last fortnight and a winner at the grade below in April — he is in decent heart and rarely far away at this level. The catch is the clock: his best time is nearly half a second slower than the selection's, which over this trip is several lengths of ground he has never found. Solid place claims; winning would need the leaders to falter in front of him.
Second at this grade over course and distance last week — his first serious crack at the trip after a career spent mostly over 400-metre sprints — and that effort deserves respect. But the sustained-pace question is not fully answered: his recorded times over this distance are the slowest in the field and he was well held in his only other try at 525 metres. Improving and interesting, but he needs another step forward.
Key insight: Sample is the field's own combined course-and-distance runs (35) — no track-level historical database exists for Dundalk yet. No historical Dundalk condition data exists yet — this is one of the first Dundalk cards in the dataset, so there are no trap or rating benchmarks for this track. Form-based read: last week's grade winner holds the fastest time and top speed figure against a consistent but win-shy field.
