Youghal's 525 metre trip is a fair galloping test where sharp early pace and a clean run to the first bend still count for plenty, but with every runner in this field having raced just once at this level the trap data is meaningless here — there is no course history to lean on for any of these six. This is genuinely a maiden puzzle rather than a structured race, so the clock from that single run becomes the only hard evidence available. Bealad Martyn was the fastest of the six on that debut and looks the one to be following home early, with Burgess Lilly the closest thing to a yardstick behind him. The rest were well held on the clock and need a big step forward to get competitive.
The clear fastest of the six on the clock from their solitary runs so far, clocking 29.22 and rated the best of this bunch on that one piece of evidence. It's only one run each for every runner here so nothing is certain, but a clock advantage of a quarter of a second over the next best is a real gap at this level. Trainer Eddie Lingane will be hoping the promise translates now the dog steps into open company. The most likely type to lead this field.
Posted the second-best time in the field on debut and matched Bealad Martyn's winning effort last time out. Only a quarter of a second off the top on the clock, which at this level is not a lot to find. Drawn favourably enough and looks the obvious danger if the selection doesn't have things all their own way from the traps.
Finished second on debut but was well held on the clock, more than a third of a second slower than the pace-setters. Trainer Gearoid O'Brien has a modest strike rate to date. Others in this field have more to work with on raw pace and this looks more of an each-way watching brief than a winning claim.
Well held on the clock on debut, more than three quarters of a second slower than the fastest in this field. One run doesn't tell the whole story but that is a sizeable gap to find against dogs who have already shown more pace. Needs plenty of improvement to figure.
Finished third on debut and around half a second off the fastest recorded time in this field. Trainer Adam Dunford has a fair strike rate but this looks a stiffer task with faster types drawn around him. An each-way watching brief rather than a winning claim on what's been seen so far.
The slowest recorded time in the field on debut, over a second off the pace-setters, and finished third having been held throughout. There's very little in the way of encouragement from that solitary run and she'll need to find a big chunk of improvement just to be competitive with this bunch.
Key insight: Every runner has raced just once, all in the same newcomer event — there is no structural course-and-distance or trap evidence to draw on, so the single clocking each runner produced is the only real signal.
