Grumpy Walter is a class apart on the figures, with recent performances in the 40s, 50s and 60s in A5 and handicap company over 462 metres — a level well above anything else in this D3 field. He's shown early pace in several of those runs, leading from the run-up before being caught in the closing stages at the longer trip. The big question is whether that ability translates to a 268-metre sprint he hasn't tried before. The downhill start at Kinsley should suit a dog with his natural early speed, and the class gap over this field is so wide that even a moderate transition to the shorter trip should see him competitive. Trainer N Langley's 16 percent rate is modest but the raw material here is far superior.
Proven course and distance winner from the rail with early pace — the main danger to the pick.
In-and-out form but has the early speed to be involved if breaking well.
Drawn in the worst trap and form at this grade is moderate — hard to make a case.
Honest but one-paced — needs trouble ahead to feature in a race that favours early speed.
Best trap position but recent form is too poor to trust — needs to show a return to earlier levels.
Trap 6 is the strongest box at these conditions but the composite rank separation is marginal at under 5pp. Class edge matters more than position here.
