Romford's 400-metre circuit is fast and tight, and trap one holds the biggest structural edge in the book overall — it wins getting on for one in five races here (20.5%) with the widest boxes traditionally weaker. Tonight's A4 grade actually flips that pattern: trap four has been the strongest box at this level recently (nearly a quarter of A4 winners from over 300 runs), while trap six has been the weakest. What matters most at this trip is what happens after the opening bend — dogs that get there in a good position and keep finding more hold on, while quick-away types who burn bright early and empty out through the closing bends usually get swallowed up. Zenith Zaza looks the fastest on the clock but fits exactly that fading profile from a wide box, while Move The Magic and Yahoo Misty both look more sustainable types capable of still being there into the final bend.
Only two starts to her name but both have been eye-catching — a comfortable, all-the-way win last time out at Romford over this trip and a length-and-three-quarter defeat the start before, both in graded company. She's versatile rather than one-paced, able to race up with them or come from just off it, which is exactly the profile that tends to hold up best around Romford's bends. The step up to A4 looks a fair test of a dog on the way up, and trainer K M O'Flaherty has a strong career record with runners at this level. Still building a formline, but everything so far points the right way.
Won her last two starts, both from this exact trap three box, and has been travelling strongly through the field rather than relying purely on raw early speed. Trap three has been the second-best box in this grade recently, and her sustainable finishing effort should suit a track where the fading types tend to get reeled in late on. Only five starts so the formline is still on the short side, but every recent run has been competitive against similar company. The one most likely to give the selection trouble.
Nine of her races have come at this exact track and distance, and while she's yet to add a second win she's rarely far away — three seconds, three thirds and a win from that sample. Finished third last time out and second the run before, both at this A4 grade over this trip. Draws trap one, which carries the strongest structural record at Romford's 400 metres overall even if this particular grade has favoured the wider boxes lately. A genuine course specialist who is never disgraced.
Has spent almost all of her recent career sprinting over 225 metres and steps up to a full circuit here having managed only one previous try at this trip, finishing last of six. Her times over 400 metres are markedly slower than the rest of this field, and there is no evidence yet that the extra distance suits her. A significant unknown stepping into much deeper water tonight — hard to have any real confidence in her claims at this trip.
The fastest recent times in the race and on a two-race winning streak coming into this, stepping up from A6 grade after a couple of front-running victories. The concern is what tends to happen to quick-away dogs drawn wide at Romford over this trip — she shows the pattern of leading early and emptying out through the closing bends, and trap six has actually been the weakest box in this grade recently. Worth respecting for pure speed, but this track has burned plenty of fast-starting outsiders before her.
Key insight: At A4 grade, trap four has been unusually strong (23.7% from 312 runs) while the outside boxes lag — a reversal of Romford's overall trap-one bias, and worth weighing against the general track profile.
