Understanding Ratings

What are the Performance Ratings?

We analyse all of a dog's last ten performances. There's a lot that goes into making up this metric, but here are the key factors: Where did it finish? At what class/grade did it run? If it lost, how far back was it? Can you forgive a bad run or not? And lots more.

What you'll see on a racecard is the dog's last ten runs. LR = Last Race. 2LR = 2nd Last Race. 3LR = 3rd Last Race. 4LR = ... you get the picture.

We used to depreciate ratings over time, but we found that wasn't useful. What IS useful is to see the fluctuations in form — and whether they are due to class movement or form changes.

You'll see a number in brackets on the racecard, this shows you the placing of the dog in that event. A low number with a (1) would indicate a win at a lower grade.

And if you want to see all of those ten runs — simply click on the dog's name and the full form readout will appear in front of your eyes.
