Yesterday was a decent day for the model across a big programme of 135 races. The top-rated dog in each race won outright 35 times, a first-pick strike rate of 25.9 per cent, and made the frame in 59 races on top of that, for a first-pick win-or-place figure of just under 70 per cent. Cast the net wider to any of the top three predicted runners and the picture gets stronger still: those dogs combined for 85 wins across the card, a 63 per cent hit rate for at least one of the top three predictions landing the race, with 122 of the 135 races seeing a top-three pick finish in the frame.
Those are healthy numbers on a busy day, and they sit comfortably with what the model has been doing over the last week rather than representing some kind of outlier spike. The second and third-rated picks pulled their weight too, with 21 and 29 winners respectively, which suggests the ranking beneath the top pick is doing real work rather than the model simply nominating one dog and hoping.
It was not a flawless day, no card of 135 races ever is, and there will always be results where the form goes out the window on a bump at the first bend or a big price outsider gets its ground. But on the numbers alone, yesterday sits toward the better end of recent days rather than the worse, and there is nothing here that should knock confidence in the picks heading into today's action.
