If you're looking at the Sheffield card today, keep an eye on K J Ferguson. The trainer has been in terrific form over the last three months, sending out 14 winners from 41 runners for a 34.1% strike rate. Add in 9 places and the combined win-and-place rate climbs to 56.1%. That's serious consistency.
Ferguson saddles four runners at Sheffield today, all from the Acomb kennel and all drawn in the outside traps. Acomb Blossom runs in the A3 over 500 metres at 12:09 from trap 6. Acomb Mo contests the A5 at 12:42 from trap 6. Acomb Billy goes in the A4 at 1:17 from trap 5. And Acomb Olga rounds off the afternoon in the A3 at 1:51, again from trap 6.
Three of the four are drawn in box 6 at Sheffield, which is worth considering in context. The track currently shows an 11.6% win rate from trap 6, one of the weaker draws. So while Ferguson's dogs carry strong kennel form, the draw works against them slightly. Trap 2, by contrast, is dominating Sheffield right now at 39.1%, and trap 5 sits at a reasonable 15.9%, which gives Acomb Billy arguably the best positional chance of the four.
What makes Ferguson's numbers particularly impressive is the volume. Fourteen winners from 41 isn't a hot streak from a handful of runners. It's sustained quality across a meaningful sample. Trainers operating above 30% over three months are typically getting their string into excellent condition, and that kind of form doesn't tend to evaporate overnight.
Worth following all four today, but pay closest attention to Acomb Billy's race at 1:17. The A4 grade and trap 5 draw give the best combination of opportunity and position.
