The form watch list today is dominated by a Doncaster theme, with four of the five sharp risers running at the South Yorkshire venue tonight.
Burnfoot Bertie shows the biggest improvement in the current dataset, jumping 49 composite points from 21 to 70. He runs from trap 1 in the 18:46 OR over 450 metres at Doncaster. A score that has moved from the low 20s to 70 in a short window usually signals a dog who has found a distance or grade that genuinely fits. The OR classification at 450 metres is a different demand to graded racing, and Bertie's improvement suggests he has been building into that sphere. Trap 1 is not ideal at Doncaster where it wins just 9.3% of races, but a trajectory this steep is worth tracking regardless of the draw.
Gruszka is also on the move, going from 24 to 71 (plus 47 points) and running from trap 2 in the 20:16 OR over 483 metres at Doncaster. He lines up alongside Epic Rebel (trap 6), who has climbed 23 points from 18 to 41 in the same race. Two improving dogs sharing a race makes the 20:16 worth close attention tonight.
Away from Doncaster, Hows That has moved from 15 to 41 (plus 26 points) and steps up to A1 grade over 480 metres at Dunstall Park at 19:39, running from trap 6. Grade movement into A1 with a climbing composite is an interesting combination. Some dogs improve quickly once they settle into the upper-mid grade range and start competing with better opposition.
All five are available to track via the Dog Selector if you want to follow their progress over the coming weeks.
