The highlight of today's card arrives at Yarmouth at 18:31 — a six-runner A1 over 462 metres with more angles than most races at this level. On paper it looks like a four-horse race, but the way those four dogs like to run makes for a genuinely fascinating tactical puzzle.
Coras Pearl (Trap 2) is the pick according to the composite model, and the reason is straightforward: she carries the fastest raw speed rating in the field. At Yarmouth's long galloping home straight, a dog with a genuine speed edge can build a lead early and make rivals work extremely hard to close it down. The concern is that she's a Fader by pace profile — quick early but loses ground late. If she gets out cleanly from Trap 2, however, her rivals will need to be at their absolute best to reel her in.
The most compelling dangers both sit on the other side of the pace equation. Romantic Storm (Trap 4) shares the joint-highest composite score in the field and posted an impressive performance rating of 87 when winning at A2 last time out. She's a Closer — exactly the type that Yarmouth's extended straight favours — and her career peak of 92 suggests she's more than capable at this grade. Golden Acre (Trap 6) is the most consistent dog in the race. Form figures of 80, 91 and 86 in her last three runs is a high-class sequence for A1 company, and her track and distance suitability at Yarmouth is solid. Another Closer, another big each-way threat.
Caseys Moment (Trap 1) deserves respect too — a recent A2 winner with the highest single-race score in the field at 87, though stepping up in grade today from a wide outside draw.
This is a race where pace shapes everything. If Coras Pearl gets a clean run and leads into the straight, Romantic Storm and Golden Acre will need to close quickly from behind. If anything checks the favourite early, those Closers could have it between them.
