The 14:54 at Towcester is the race of the day, and the subtext is personal. Alright Bullet (trap 4) and Annadown Warrior (trap 6) met over course and distance a fortnight ago, with Annadown Warrior winning by two lengths in what looked like a statement performance. Now they go again, and the draw might have a lot to say about the rematch.
This is an OR2 over 500 metres at a track where the inside traps dominate this grade. Trap 1 wins nearly 30% of OR2 races here, while trap 6 manages just 8.6% from 35 runs. Annadown Warrior is the best dog in the race by virtually every measure: unbeaten in three career starts, a performance average of 94, and the sharpest first-bend pace in the field with a rating of 82. She has the class to overcome bad draws, and she's done it before, but the data says that sooner or later trap 6 catches up with everyone.
Alright Bullet knows this track inside out. Two consecutive OR wins here in times of 28.76 and 28.92, both leading from the off. His 28.76 is the fastest Towcester 500m time in the field. Trap 4 is not ideal at OR2 level (12.5% win rate), but his experience of the track and his natural front-running style give him a realistic path to the lead. He was the deep reasoning pick for this race, and for good reason: proven course-and-distance form at this level earns respect even from a moderate draw.
Then there's Whyaye Mister (trap 5), the model's top-rated runner on raw speed. Two career starts, two wins at Monmore, including a 28.26 last time. The talent is obvious. The question marks are just as big: he's never raced at Towcester, never raced over 500 metres, and his closing style may not suit a track where early pace and the first bend matter enormously. A genuine wildcard with serious upside and serious risk in equal measure.
